Doornroosje - Nijmegen - 21-07-2020 It is July 2020, and Covid-19 caused the cancellation of all major concerts and festivals this year. After months of Dutch 'Intelligent' lockdown venues could open up again with restrictions as of June. Whilst in June 30 people could attend concerts, in July 100 people were allowed at small seated concerts. It leads to a new sort of private concerts and feels a little bit like a VIP treatment. Bands usually doing 2 (or even 3) concerts in a row at one day. After an intimate and solo concert of Jett Rebel 2 weeks before in De Pul (Uden), this would be my second official concert of 2020, a record low in more than 25 years. Jungle By Night is set to stage. This nine-piece band is playing an interesting kind of music with guitar-bass-synth-brass-percussion and except for song announcements fully instrumental. It is also the band's first concert in a while, so apart from rehearsals in studio this was kind of final rehearsal for main audience. The band is very eager to play again and this leads to a special atmosphere. With a loose style of playing it feels like a long musical jam with structured songs and room for some freestyling. Jungle By Night is really on fire with a blend of dance, afrobeat, jazz and oriental music. It is hard to stay seated with a continuous flow and upbeat songs. Maybe some of you may have never experienced a Jungle By Night gig but it is definitely one of Dutch best live bands around worth visiting. Songs to check out Atilla, Hangmat and attached soundbyte of Stormvogel.
